JUMBLEQUEEN

Jumblequeen is a blog dedicated to the unsung female musicians of the late 1960's to early 1970's. It will feature interviews from artists themselves as well as new artists whose work has been influenced by these exceptional women of yesteryear. All interview content is property of Jumblequeen. This is a small presentation of what will eventually be a book dedicated to these artists.

Called “the unsung heroine of British electronic music” by the UK’s Guardian, Delia Derbyshire was an innovative musician and recording engineer who often struggled with isolation and sexism in the then-new male-dominated field. After excelling in her job as a trainee studio manager at the BBC, she joined the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Most of the work she did under this umbrella went uncredited.

Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom ( Spectrum, Spacemen 3) was not only highly influenced by her work but was one of the last artists to work with her before her passing in 2001. He has granted an interview for this project and from the little I have chatted with him he has relayed incredible insight. I am thrilled to have his involvement in championing her work for this project. Stay tuned…..
